music

here's some albums i enjoy (present tense for the moment but if they ever become enjoyed in the past tense i will leave them here anyway). i'm as media-literate as the next guy, and his understanding of the themes behind fight club were also pretty shallow at first.. every misinterpretation is my own.

clipping. - dead channel sky plus

2025 · electronic rap hiphop noise experimental

when has an album with a big ass bug on the cover ever done me wrong? god damn what a fucking album. i was hooked from the moment the singles came out and by the time the deluxe version released i was still listening to the album on repeat.

this is my favourite album from clipping. and a frontrunner for my favourite album of all time.

as always with daveed diggs every line is poetry. packed to the brim with lyricism, without floweriness or filler or fluff, no kuzco's poison bs just tight as fuck storytelling. speaking of storytelling the myriad references to cyberpunk and dystopian fiction don't feel so fictional, if that makes sense. a lot of the tracks feel like a glimpse into not so much a different world but this world, just further down the path that it's treading. cyberpunk pessimism is the outlook that prevails for me (although i try not to be a negative nancy) and i do get stressed and depressed.

i find this album to be a work of non-fictional fiction. it's melancholy and dystopian, kind of like how godspeed you! black emperor's dead flag blues is melancholy and dystopian, but dcs doesn't feel like the story of a world that has ended. it doesn't even feel like a world in the process of ending; just a world in a process. shit is certainly fucked, but it's less "we are fucking fucked" and more "we are being fucking fucked. and sometimes fucking eachother."

literally where the fuck was i going with this. anyway.
